West Ham United have announced the appointment of Julen Lopetegui as their new manager, succeeding David Moyes at the London club.

The Spaniard, who was most recently in charge of Sevilla, has signed a three-year contract with the Hammers.

Lopetegui has a wealth of experience in management, having previously coached Real Madrid, the Spain national team, and Porto.

He will be tasked with improving West Ham's fortunes after they finished 16th in the Premier League last season.

Lopetegui's managerial record

  • Real Madrid: 2018-2019
  • Spain national team: 2018
  • Porto: 2014-2016
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers: 2022-2023

Lopetegui has a good track record in management, having won the Europa League with Sevilla in 2020.

He also led Spain to the knockout stages of the 2018 World Cup.

Lopetegui's task at West Ham

Lopetegui will be tasked with improving West Ham's performances on the pitch.

The Hammers have not finished in the top half of the Premier League since 2016.

Lopetegui will also be looking to make an impact in the cups.

West Ham have not won a major trophy since the FA Cup in 1980.

Lopetegui's first words as West Ham manager

Lopetegui said he was "excited" to be joining West Ham.

"I am very happy to be here," he said.

"I want to thank the owners for giving me this opportunity.

"I am looking forward to working with the players and the staff.

"I am confident that we can achieve great things together."
