NFL rumors: Eagles not interested in signing Ezekiel Elliott
The Philadelphia Eagles are not interested in signing Ezekiel Elliott, according to head coach Nick Sirianni.
Elliott has been linked to the Eagles since he was released by the Dallas Cowboys in March. However, Sirianni said Wednesday that the team is "not in the market" for a running back.
The Eagles have a number of young running backs on their roster, including Miles Sanders, Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott. Sirianni said he is confident in the team's current group.
"We like the running backs we have," Sirianni said. "We think they're all capable of being productive players in this offense."
Elliott is a three-time Pro Bowl selection and was named the NFL's Rookie of the Year in 2016. However, he has struggled with injuries in recent years and has not rushed for 1,000 yards since 2019.
The Eagles are coming off a disappointing season in which they finished 9-8 and missed the playoffs. Sirianni is looking to rebound in 2023 and he believes the team's running game will be a key part of their success.
"We want to be a physical, run-first team," Sirianni said. "We think that's the best way to win in this league."
The Eagles will open the 2023 season on Sept. 11 at home against the Detroit Lions.
