Cowboys Reunite with Running Back Ezekiel Elliott After One-Year Absence

Veteran Presence and Backfield Depth Bolstered with Elliott's Return

Dallas Cowboys Address Running Back Room with Proven Veteran

The Dallas Cowboys have welcomed back running back Ezekiel Elliott on a one-year deal, bringing back a familiar face to bolster their ground game. Elliott, who spent the 2023 season with the New England Patriots, joins a Cowboys running back room in need of a proven veteran after 2023 leading rusher Tony Pollard departed in free agency.

Elliott's return provides experience and familiarity to a Cowboys offense that has undergone changes in recent months. With the departure of Pollard, the team lacked a clear-cut number one running back and Elliott's presence fills that void.

Along with Elliott, the Cowboys have several other running backs on their roster, including Rico Dowdle, Malik Davis, and Sewo Olonilua. However, none of these players have the same level of experience or production as Elliott, who has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his first five seasons in the NFL.

Elliott's signing is the latest move by the Cowboys to address their running back depth. The team previously re-signed running back Ryan Switzer to a one-year deal and also added undrafted free agent DeAndre Torrey. With these additions, the Cowboys have assembled a solid group of running backs that should provide a solid foundation for their offense in 2024.

Elliott is expected to play a major role in the Cowboys' offense this season. He is a versatile running back who can both run between the tackles and catch passes out of the backfield. His presence should help take some pressure off of quarterback Dak Prescott and open up the offense for other playmakers.
